“How much does it cost?” is the first question in almost every inquiry – and the answer “it depends” helps no one. So here is an honest guide to how I price event photography in Dresden and Saxony.
The guide prices
- Hourly rate: €160 net
- Half day (up to 4 hours): €590 net
- Day rate (up to 8 hours): €1,150 net
- Multi-day events: package price based on scope
- Schools, clubs and event organizers: individual prices
All rates include selecting, editing and delivering the photos in web and print resolution via an online gallery – including the usage rights for your own communication. Travel costs are extra. All prices net, plus 19% VAT.
What moves the price up or down
Duration. A three-hour sponsor evening is something different from a conference running from 8 am to 10 pm. Up to four hours, I charge by the hour or at the half-day rate; longer assignments are charged at the day rate.
Delivery time. Standard delivery takes 3 to 5 working days. If you need a selection the same evening – for the press or social media – I add the time for it as one extra hour.
Second photographer. For parallel program items (stage and workshop rooms at the same time), a second photographer makes sense. For this, I work with colleagues from Dresden.
Usage rights for third parties. If sponsors, partners or agencies are to use the images for advertising, an extended license is agreed – usually as a small flat fee per user.
What you shouldn’t pay for
Be careful with quotes in which editing, usage rights or “full-resolution image files” show up as extra items. For a corporate event, these aren’t extras but the core of the service.
Sample calculation: company anniversary in Dresden
A company celebrates its 25th anniversary at the Ostra-Dome, 200 guests, program from 6 pm to 11 pm, press and social media the next morning.
- Assignment from 6 pm to 11 pm, five hours at the day rate: €1,150 net
- Selection of 20 images that same night (1 hour): €160 net
- Selection, editing, gallery, usage rights: included
- Travel costs within Dresden: at cost
Total: €1,310 net plus 19% VAT. For that, the company gets around 250 to 350 edited images – location, guests, stage, sponsors, details.
